Eastern Shelf Operations

 

The eastern Gulf of Mexico shelf area comprises approximately 42% and 28% of the company's proved reserves and production, respectively, primarily within the Main Pass 61 and South Pass 49 field.

Main Pass 61 — View Statistics

Discovered in 2002, Main Pass 61 is an oil field located near the mouth of the Mississippi River in approximately 90 feet of water. The field includes two producing pods that are being water-flooded to maximize recovery. Energy XXI serves as the operator at Main Pass 61 and has a 50% working interest. There are 16 producing wells and three major production platforms located throughout the field. Main Pass 61 contributed net production for the year ended June 30, 2009 of 4,050 BOE/d, which was about 33% higher than the previous year. At June 30, 2009, net proved reserves for the field were 13.4 million BOE, 90% of which was oil. Energy XXI has an approximate 50% working interest and operates the Main Pass 72/73/74 fields, in close proximity to the Main Pass 61 field. These oil fields have produced more than 100 million BOE to date and contain three producing platforms and one central facility. The fields’ average daily net production for the year ended June 30, 2009 was 1,700 BOE/d. At June 30, 2009, net proved reserves for the fields were 2.7 million BOE, 66% of which was oil.

 

South Pass 49

We have a 33 percent working interest in the operate the South Pass 49 field unit, located near the mouth of the Mississippi River in approximately 300 feet of water. The field unit consists of the Discorbis 69 and Discorbis 70 sands, ranging in depth from 8,700 to 9,400 feet, on the OCS blocks South Pass 33, 48, and 49. We also have a 10 percent working interest in the non unit, which consists of 12 additional producing sands ranging in depth from 7,200 to 9,000 feet. Net proved reserves from the complex were 36 percent oil. There are 13 active completions in the field that have been shut-in since August 2008 when Hurricane Gustav damaged both the oil and gas sales pipelines. The gas and oil pipeline repairs are scheduled for November 2009. We currently estimate net field production of 0.8 MBOED to be restored in our upcoming fiscal third quarter.
