Main Pass 61 Field

Main Pass 61 Field

The Main Pass 61 field is located near the mouth of the Mississippi River in approximately 90 feet of water. Initially discovered by Pogo Producing Company in 2000, the field has produced in excess of 65 MMBOE since production first began in 2002, from four Upper Miocene sands. The primary producer is the J-6 Sand, which consists of a series of stratigraphic reservoirs deposited in an outer shelf/upper slope channel/levee/overbank complex deposited on the regional south dip. The two larger J-6 Sand reservoirs, pods A and B are oil reservoirs that are being water flooded to maintain reservoir pressure and maximize recovery.
